Prix du Livre de Géographie des lycéens et étudiants 2022
Based on far-reaching research, made up of previously undocumented observations and accounts, this book follows the journeys of women encountered on the fringes of Europe in Italy and Malta, after their long journey across the desert and the Mediterranean.
The book’s primary focus is to follow the journey of survivors, their progress from heartbreaking separation to wandering from pillar to post, from meetings to opportunities. As we follow these stories collected, by Camille Schmoll, we learn that the reasons they left are far from being simple and linear, from fleeing persecution, to the desire for autonomy and a wish for new horizons.
Camille Schmoll teaches at the Université de Paris. She is a member of the Institut universitaire de France, the l’Institut convergences migrations, and the laboratoire Géographie-cités. With Hélène Thiollet and Virginie Guiraudon, she founded the GIEM (GIEC des Migrations -Intergovernmental Panel on Migration).
