Pierre Tevanian has encountered and fought against racism in many forms and has come to see it from three angles: as a concept, a precept and an affect. Racism is a complex and many-sided reality which can be seen as a conception of the world, a way of seeing the other - their presence, their body, their speech - and as a life choice, a way of being affected and experiencing that affect.
The work dismantles the machinery of systemic racism and analyses its traps. Pierre Tevanian argues that “integration”, “one community” and other State anti-racist slogans are traps that undermine a necessary policy for equality.
Born in 1970, Pierre Tevanian is a philosophy teacher in Seine-Saint-Denis (Drancy). In 2001, with Sylvie Tissot he founded the “Les Mots sont importants” (Words are important) he is the editor of Lmsi.net and is also the author of numerous books including, with La Découverte: La République du mépris (The republic of contempt) (2007) and La Haine de la religion (Radical secularism) (2013).
