The main goal of this work is to give a complete and concise overview, in a pedagogical and not technical manner, of the way in which economists integrate emotional processes (feelings, moods, emotions) into economic analysis.
What is an emotion? Are emotions rational? When making economic policy, should one rely on the rational nature of economic agents or appeal to their feelings?...
Emmanuel Petit is a professor of economics at the University of Bordeaux. His research is interdisciplinary and falls on the border between the psychology of economics and philosophy. He recently published L’Économie du care (PUF, 2013).
He has written many articles on the role of emotions and social psychology in economic analysis and has created a thorough, pedagogical website on economic psychology, hosted by the CNRS (http://ecopsycho.prod.lamp.cnrs.fr/).
