In this work Agnès Gayraud argues against the criticism of pop as a degenerate form of classical music which is seen as having a monopoly on the art. She shows that one can find aesthetic challenges which are specific to this form of music. Pop is not a direct descendant of the Muses. Its history, regardless of musical genres, is closely linked to the broadcasting technologies which have allowed it to flourish commercially. Agnès Gayraud presents an overview of this history, taking care to highlight the aesthetic intentions of this musical form which is so often denigrated in favor of supposedly great music.
Agnès Gayraud is a philosopher, journalist and an author – composer and performer with the La Féline musical project.
