During the twentieth century Berlin suffered violent historical upheavals. Since the fall of the Wall in 1989, the city has engaged in profound institutional, political, financial, demographic and social changes which are often out of step with developments in the other great European capitals. This book analyses the significant originality of Berlin – an extraordinary laboratory of social and political invention.
