Since the 1970s the theory of business entreprise has progressively become a field of study that is an integral part of economics. Under the influence of transaction cost theory, it has seen its currents multiply, currents that originate from the mainstream as much as from more alternative sources. This book presents an accessible analysis of the theories of business enterprise, beginning with its origins (Knight and Coase, notably) and then moving to more recent work. The goal of the last chapter is to comprehend the characteristics of the modern large business firm in light of these theories.
